How the referral works
in plain language
- 1
We find and vet candidates
We personally interview every nanny, check their references, and confirm they are TrustLine registered or a current applicant before we introduce them.
- 2
You interview and choose
You meet the nannies we recommend and decide who is right for your family. The choice is always yours.
- 3
You hire and pay your nanny directly
Your nanny works for your family, not for us. You hire them and pay them directly.
- 4
You agree on pay and schedule together
Hourly rate, hours, duties and time off are agreed between you and your nanny. We're happy to share what's typical in the IE.
Because your family is the employer, you may have household-employer responsibilities, such as payroll taxes. See “Who employs the nanny?” below for helpful EDD and IRS resources.
Frequently asked questions
good questions, honest answers
Who employs the nanny?
Your family does. The IE Nanny Collective is a referral service: we find, vet and introduce nannies, and you hire your nanny directly.
As the employer, your family may have household-employer responsibilities, such as payroll taxes and wage reporting. Good places to start are the California EDD's household employer information and the IRS Household Employer's Tax Guide (Publication 926). A tax professional can also help you get set up.
What is TrustLine?
TrustLine is California's official background-check registry for in-home caregivers like nannies and babysitters. It is run by the California Department of Social Services and includes a fingerprint check of California and FBI criminal records, plus a search of California's Child Abuse Central Index.
Every nanny we refer is TrustLine registered or a current applicant whose registration is in progress. Learn more at trustline.org.
What if it doesn't work out?
Sometimes a match just isn't right, and that's okay. If your nanny leaves or you part ways within 90 days of their start date, we'll find you one replacement nanny free of charge.
What areas do you serve?
We serve families across the Inland Empire, including Ontario, Rancho Cucamonga, Upland, Chino, Eastvale, Corona and Riverside. Live nearby but don't see your city? Send us a request and we'll let you know if we can help.
When is the fee due?
Only when you hire. There is nothing to pay to submit a request or to interview nannies. For long-term placements the fee is 8% of your nanny's first-year gross pay, and for temporary placements of 1 to 4 months it is 15% of total wages.
How are nannies vetted?
Every nanny completes an application, a phone screen and a personal interview, and we check references, work authorization, TrustLine status, and current infant and child CPR and First Aid certification. See the full vetting process.
